Water Mitigation FAQs

The drying time of materials can be varied and is influenced by various factors, including the source of the water, the types of building materials involved, weather conditions, and how deeply and long the water has penetrated the affected materials. We continuously monitor the moisture levels to ensure the drying process is effecient and completed without unnessecary delays.

We use specialist measuring devices to determine the moisture levels in your property.

Possibly, but typically, we strongly advise against changing any settings once we have installed drying equipment. We want to avoid any unintended delays of the drying process.

Wood flooring should be assessed before and during the drying process. We use specialist drying equipment to ensure wood floors dry efficiently and return to their pre-loss condition. Because some materials are particulalry dense, this process may take several weeks. If you made an insurance claim, your insurance adjuster will decide whether the floors require restoration or replacement.

The damage and construction of your furniture will normally determine if it can be restored. Non-salvageable items will be documented, and you’ll need to sign a release form for any items that are discarded.

It depends on the extent of the damage to your property. If you have made an insurance claim the loss adjuster or claims handler can provide guidance. Here are several important points to consider:

  1. Safety is our main priority. While our equipment is designed to be as childproof as possible, we require your supervision to ensure that children do not touch the equipment.
  2. Air movers and dehumidifiers produce constant noise which can be disruptive and affect the quality of life. Drying equipment is designed to be in operation 24/7.
  3. As part of the strip-out work we may need to removed your bathroom or kitchen.

Odours are common during the drying program due to the increased air flow and heat. These odours will fade once the drying program has been completed and your property is dry.

This usually depends on the extent of the damage and the type of contents. Typically we will aim to move any wooden contents away from areas where dehumidifiers are installed to avoid secondary damage. Other items of contents can remain in the drying area but protected.

We will assess the moisture levels in affected ceilings. Some ceilings may require removal as they will be compromised if wet.

Open drying is a recognised method of drying the property during favourable weather conditions. We would not recommend opening windows when dehumidifiers have been installed.

This will depend on the drying equipment installed. In some cases trip hazards cannot be avoided and we would recommend you do not walk in the area. However we will always attempt to make the drying process as least disruptive as possible.

This decision will be based on a number of, some of the reasons a carpet cannot be restored includes:

  1. Delamination: This occurs when the backing separates from the carpet fibers.
  2. Loss of adhesion: This issue can be caused by prolonged exposure to water.
  3. Permanent stains: Stains that cannot be removed may render the carpet unusable.
  4. Sewage contamination: This type of contamination is a significant health concern and can make the carpet irreparable.

Rugs will be assessed by a specialist restorer.

Our Technicans will install and monitor the drying equipment to ensure the drying best results in the shortest time possible. Please do not turn off or move the equipment. If the power goes out or the equipment shuts off, notify our office immediately. Thank you.

Hard surfaces may be cleaned and sanitized. Items that cannot be sanitized must be disposed of. Porous materials that have been directly affected should be removed and disposed.
